Frequently Asked Questions

1. Fix And Care FAQs

Gold Jewelry:

  • Place the gold in a gentle bath of warm water
  • Add a few drops of dish soap
  • Let the gols soak for five minutes
  • Take the gold out and lay it on a soft cloth
  • Go over crevices with a soft toothbrush

Silver Jewelry:

  • Keep away from air: Silver tarnishes because of a chemical reaction that occurs when it comes into contact with the air over a long period. Storing it in an airtight container will slow this process.
  • Polishing is better than washing: Only clean silver jewelry with water if absolutely necessary. To polish your jewelry, you can use either liquid polishes or wipes. The liquid can get messy, so we recommend using wipes.

Plated Jewelry:

Plated jewelry is different from other types of jewelry, so it requires a different set of rules for cleaning. Typically, jewelry makers use metals like gold, silver, or platinum as the exterior metal. Once the plating has eroded, it's gone for good. This makes the cleaning process for this type of jewelry more complicated.

Gold-plated jewelry:

  • Place the gold in a gentle bath of warm water
  • Add a few drops of dish soap
  • Let the gols soak for five minutes
  • Take the gold out and lay it on a soft cloth
  • Go over crevices with a soft toothbrush
  • Rinse and dry with a soft cloth

Silver-plated jewelry:

  • Cover the inside of a bowl with aluminum foil
  • Pour 1 tbsp baking soda and 1 tbsp salt into a bowl
  • Fill the bowl half full of hot water and stir
  • Place jewelry in the solution for 10 mins
  • Remove and wipe dry with a lint-free cloth

Pearl:

Be gentle. The best way to take care of pearl jewelry is to handle it with care. Like other organic gem materials, pearls are susceptible to dents, scratches, and deterioration. Always be gentle when handling or cleaning pearls.

Avoid extreme light: Pearls can bleach if exposed to too much harsh light.

Never soak pearls: To best take care of pearls, avoid soaking them. Soaking a string of pearls can cause damage to both the pearls and the string.

To clean pearl jewelry:

  • Make a mixture of warm water and a small amount of shampoo
  • Dip a small makeup brush into the solution and brush the pearl
  • Use a damp cloth to wipe clean

Gemstones:

Generally, for nonporous gemstones, like diamonds, rubies, and sapphires, the best cleaning method is to soak them in a solution and gently brush off any dirt or debris.

For porous gemstones, like emerald, turquoise, and amber, it's best to brush on the solution using minimal water, and then wipe clean.

  • To care for your diamonds, you can wear them daily and on any occasion. However, avoid wearing them during sports, intense physical activities, or when going to the beach.
  • To keep your diamonds sparkling, gently clean them with a soft cloth to remove dirt and maintain their brilliance. Proper care will ensure your diamond jewelry lasts for years to come.

4. Gold Jewelry FAQs

Pure gold, or 24K gold, is gold that hasn't been mixed with any other metals. ... The color of pure gold is much brighter and more orange than what most people associate with the gold used in jewelry. Because of this, it generally isn't an attractive metal for rings, watches, and other gold jewelry.

Yellow Gold:

We often think of yellow gold as being pure, the yellow gold used for rings is an alloy made by combining pure gold with metals such as zinc and copper. As with other gold colors, the higher the karat amount, the higher the actual gold content, but the less durable the piece of jewelry is.

Rose Gold:

Rose gold, sometimes called pink gold, is an alloy created by adding copper to pure gold, which results in a pinkish metallic hue.

White Gold:

Developed to imitate platinum, white gold it is typically created by adding 25% nickel and zinc to pure gold. The lower the karat, the more "white" it will retain because the karat is increased by adding more pure, yellow gold.

10-Karat Gold:

10k gold is the lowest solid gold alloy used for jewelry. It's composed of 41.7% gold and 58.3% alloy. 10k gold is pale yellow in color. It's the least yellow of all the karat types since it contains the least amount of gold.

14-Karat Gold:

14k gold is the most commonly used gold for jewelry settings. It's composed of 58.3% gold and 41.7% alloy. 14k gold has a yellow hue brighter than 10k gold, but not nearly as vibrant as 24k gold.

18-Karat Gold:

18k gold is one of the less commonly used types of gold since it costs more than 14k gold but doesn't offer many additional benefits. It's composed of 75% gold and 25% alloy. 18k gold is slightly brighter than 14k gold.

24-Karat Gold:

24k gold is pure gold. It has absolutely no alloy added to it. Its bright yellow color is not common in the U.S. or other Western countries. However, it's very popular in China, India, and other Asian countries. 24k gold is an extremely bright yellow.

Some other variants of gold alloy include 22k gold and 1k gold. Like 24k gold, 22k might be used for pieces only worn on extremely special occasions. 1k gold has the lowest possible gold content to still be called gold. It has very little yellow in its color and is rarely used.

You will find examples of jewelry made of pure metals like platinum, but pure gold is soft and isn't practical for daily wear. Other metals are mixed with gold to make it more durable (and to lower its cost).

Gold-plated jewelry is when a base metal (copper, brass, nickel, silver) is covered with a thin layer of gold, giving a great look but one that will have to be maintained.

Yes, any metals can be combined. Using a combination of yellow and white golds, or even platinum and rose gold, are nice way of creating a different look, but still having the design you desire.

  • Budget: 10k gold is your least expensive option, while 18k gold is the most expensive.
  • Aesthetic: Think about the intensity of the gold and what you prefer. If you like a lighter, more understated look, consider 10k. If you want something with a brighter yellow look, think about 18k.

Selecting the right type of gold for your jewelry is no easy feat, but with a little education and help from the knowledgeable staff at Senyda, you'll have the confidence to make the right choice.

A high carat like 18ct would be our recommendation, as it will last the longest and wear the best. The lower carats will still last a long time but are likely to show wear a bit faster. Platinum is also a great option as is it a strong long-lasting metal.

5. Silver Jewelry FAQs

Sterling silver, on the other hand, is a silver alloy. It's made when pure silver is mixed with copper. The result is an alloy that is not as soft as pure silver and is much more durable. Sterling silver is generally 92.5% pure. That means only 7.5% of the mixture is another metal. While copper is the most common, zinc and nickel are also often used in making sterling silver.

Senyda only uses sterling silver, one of the most beautiful and lustrous of all metals. With proper care, your silver will retain its beauty and character for many generations to come.

No. Although mixed with other materials, sterling jewelry still manages to maintain the tone associated with pure silver.

Silver Jewelry can definitely be worn every day, just like most other metals. To avoid unnecessary wear and damage all jewelry should be taken off before bed, and when applying perfume/creams/sunscreen, or undertaking household chores, sports/exercise, and tasks that involve harsh chemicals. These tasks can all cause abrasions over time.

Even with regular, gentle polishing, most Sterling Silver pieces will hold up incredibly well over the decades. Just make sure to get solid Silver Jewelry instead of Silver plated, and your Silver should hold up for a good long time.

Most skin tones can wear silver without any clashing, but cool and neutral skin tones glow when paired with silver. People with olive or warm coloring often look best with gold jewelry. Anyone with neutral coloring can wear either type of jewelry. Jewelry that combines silver and gold allows anyone to wear either metal.

This is very common for silver jewelry and it is called tarnishing. The good news is that tarnish only occurs on the surface and can be polished away or cleaned at home.

6. Diamond FAQs

Every loose diamond in the Diamond Jewelry list is 100% natural and is accompanied by a full Diamond Report. Additionally, none of the diamonds in our jewelry or rings has been treated or enhanced in any way.

We'll provide you with all the information we can before you buy a diamond: pictures, videos, reports, and expert advice. If an image or report of a diamond is not available online, please contact email support@senydajewelry.com.

Look for a good combination of the 4Cs: Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat weight. The cut is the most important factor to consider. The remaining 3Cs (color, clarity, and carat weight) are determined by nature.

Conflict-free diamonds are not obtained due to human rights abuses, child labor, violence, or environmental degradation. Senyda is committed to sourcing conflict-free diamonds from legitimate diamond sources who share our ethical philosophy and zero-tolerance policy towards conflict diamonds. Therefore, you can be assured that you are buying legitimate diamonds from a trusted diamond source.

The vast majority of the world's diamonds are now mined in Russia, Australia, and several African countries such as Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zaire, and Sierra Leone. Once the diamonds are extracted, approximately 80% pass through the hands of De Beers and on to the cutting centers of Antwerp, New York, and Tel Aviv. From here diamonds may take a number of different channels before being mounted into a piece of jewellery.
We buy cut and polished diamonds directly from reputable and trusted merchants to ensure our customers get the quality you deserve, for the right price.

Karat is the unit used to measure the purity of gold. Carat is used to measure the weight of diamonds and gemstones.

7. Gemstone FAQs

The precious stones are diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires, while all other gemstones are semi-precious.
This distinction reflects the rarity of the respective stones in ancient times, as well as their quality: all precious stones are translucent with fine color in their purest forms, except for the colorless diamond, and are very hard (8-10 on the Mohs scale).
Other stones are classified by their color, translucency, and hardness. The traditional distinction does not necessarily reflect modern values, for example, while garnets are relatively inexpensive, a green garnet called tsavorite, can be far more valuable than a mid-quality emerald.

We have a wide range of stones available, from diamonds to semi-precious gemstones. We like to use a range of sizes, shapes, and cuts for the most interesting jewelry.

If your stone is chipped, scratched, or has multiple abrasions, we can have a gemstone cutter take a look to see what can be done to make it look better. The stone will just require a cut and polish in most cases, and this can be done while the stone is still in its setting; otherwise, the stone may have to be removed from the setting.

8. Cubic Zirconia FAQs

Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is an inexpensive diamond alternative with many of the same qualities as a diamond. This crystalline material (or CZ) is synthetic, which means it is created in a laboratory.

CZ is a hard stone and is much more hardly scratched and damaged. But, over time, CZ can become cloudy and will require regular cleaning and care to maintain its shine.

Cubic zirconias are perfect for engagement rings and wedding bands because they look like flawless diamonds and are incredibly durable. Many couples choose cubic zirconia wedding jewelry because they are concerned about the environmental and cultural impacts of purchasing diamonds, and they benefit from saving money in the process.

9. Engraving Services FAQs

Engraving is the process of marking a surface to create a visual and textural effect. It can be done on a variety of materials such as glass, paper, plastic, metals, and stones.
Nowadays, many modern-day jewelers make use of laser engraving. Senyda is pleased to offer laser engraving for the best item.

Laser engraving is the most modern and adaptable engraving method. A highly concentrated laser beam is used to perform the engraving, and the thickness of the beam can be adjusted to increase or decrease the overall width of the engraving. The laser can also be strengthened to carve more deeply into the base material, which improves the texture of the engraving.

Senyda is pleased to offer engraved jewelry. You may select your preferred letters and numbers. However, engraving isn't possible for certain items because the flat surface of the jewelry is too small. So, contact us at email support@senydajewelry.com so that we can provide you with the support you need.

Engraving is free of charge. We offer complimentary engraving services to personalize your jewelry at no extra cost.

Contact us at email support@senydajewelry.com so that we can provide you with the support you need.

For items purchased on Senydajewels.com, the optimal placement for engraving will be decided by our engravers.

The number of characters that can be engraved will depend on the flat surface of the jewelry engraved. Most rings can accommodate between 15-20 characters (characters include letters, numbers, and spaces. For example, "I Love You" is 8 letters, but 10 characters including the spaces). The message you choose is entirely up to you!

Unfortunately, engraved items cannot be returned to Senyda.

Currently, all engravable wedding ring styles are eligible for complimentary engraving online.

Please allow an additional 2-3 days for delivery of engraved items.
